ACEEE JOB OPENING: RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - TRANSPORTATION ENERGY EFFICIENCY


Job opening: ACEEE Research Associate - Transportation Energy Efficiency

Description: The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) is seeking a Research Associate in its Washington, D.C. office. The position involves research and policy development related to energy consumption and environmental impacts of vehicle production and use. A position with ACEEE offers the opportunity to work with an outstanding organization that provides information and advice to policymakers, the business community, and consumers, shaping programs and policies that protect the environment, promote energy security, and enhance the economy. Position responsibilities include:

  • Research advanced light- and heavy-duty vehicle efficiency technologies to determine potential to reduce energy consumption and environmental impacts.

  • Design and advocate policies to promote vehicle efficiency advances.

  • Model benefits of implementing technologies and policies to improve vehicle efficiency.

  • Update methodology rating vehicle models' environmental impact for comprehensive environmental rating system.

  • Analyze trends in vehicle technology, purchasing behavior, and driving behavior.

  • Develop estimates of greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector under various scenarios.

  • Prepare technical reports, articles, and presentations on transportation energy efficiency technologies, programs and policies.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree with two years relevant experience, or bachelors degree plus five years of relevant experience, preferably in mechanical or electrical engineering; candidates with comparable background in physical science or mathematics will be considered. Knowledge of vehicles and vehicle technologies highly preferred. Candidates with less experience and training may be considered for a Research Assistant position. Excellent technical, analytical, and communications skills, and demonstrated ability to work independently, are essential. Knowledge of environmental science, as well as energy, environmental, and transportation policy, is desirable.

Start Date: Position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Summer or early fall start date is acceptable.

Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus ACEEE's generous fringe benefit package, including a cafeteria-style benefits plan that can enhance total compensation.
